#8: Wash Your Bottle Like You Mean It

Your reusable water bottle isn’t just a hydration hero. It’s also a cozy little habitat for bacteria… if you’re not careful.

Whether it’s plastic, stainless steel, or glass, the biggest contamination risk doesn’t come from the material. It comes from us: forgetting to wash it properly, letting it sit damp, or just giving it a quick rinse and calling it clean.

Warmth + moisture + residue from your mouth = ideal conditions for bacterial growth. Studies have found that the average reusable bottle, if left unwashed, can harbor more bacteria than a dog bowl or toilet seat. (Yes, really.)

So here’s the fix:
Wash it daily with hot water and dish soap, scrub the lid and mouthpiece, and let it air dry completely. Once a week, give it a deeper clean with a vinegar soak, bottle brush, or run it through the dishwasher (if it's dishwasher safe).

Clean bottle = clean water.
Simple habit. Big impact.
